How it Works

What is Ozone Therapy?

Ozone therapy involves the use of oxygen that has been converted into ozone using specialized medical equipment. The goal is to raise oxygen levels in the body, which may help stimulate healing responses and promote general wellness.

Because ozone is a highly reactive gas, the treatment must only be done by qualified professionals in a clinical setting.

How It’s Given

There are several ways ozone therapy can be administered under medical supervision:

  • Topically – applied to the skin or enclosed in a special chamber (ozone sauna).

  • Internally – gas can be gently introduced through the ears, rectum, or vagina using specialized tools.

  • Autohemotherapy – a small sample of your blood is treated with ozone and reintroduced into your bloodstream.
Other methods, such as ingestion or injection, are only performed after proper evaluation.

Is Ozone Therapy Right for You?

Because ozone therapy is still considered experimental, it’s not recommended for everyone. Our team reviews each patient’s medical history and provides full disclosure of benefits and risks before proceeding.

At Metropolitan Medical Centers, we combine ozone therapy with our broader approach to wellness — offering Primary Care, Vision Care, Physical Therapy, Dental, and IV Therapy services throughout Broward County, including Tamarac, Sunrise, Coral Springs, Lauderhill, Margate, and Plantation.

General Questions

Metropolitan Medical Center FAQs

Ozone therapy is an alternative medical procedure that uses a form of oxygen (O₃) under controlled conditions. The goal is to increase oxygen in the body and support circulation or immune function. It remains experimental and is not approved by the FDA as a standard treatment.

Ozone can be applied in several ways:

  • On the skin under a sealed chamber or “ozone sauna”

  • By carefully blowing gas through the ears, rectum, or vagina using medical equipment

  • By drawing a small amount of blood, mixing it with ozone, and reinfusing it (autohemotherapy)
Each method is performed only under medical supervision and never through direct inhalation.

When performed by trained professionals, it can be administered safely; however, it’s not risk-free. Possible side effects include mild cramping, temporary flu-like symptoms, or irritation if administered incorrectly. Ozone should never be inhaled, as this can cause lung injury.

Some studies suggest ozone therapy may:

  • Improve tissue oxygenation and blood circulation

  • Support immune activity

  • Reduce inflammation and oxidative stress
These benefits are still being studied, and results can vary from person to person.

Ozone therapy is not recommended for people with active respiratory diseases, bleeding disorders, or who are pregnant. Every patient is evaluated individually at Metropolitan Medical Centers to determine if it’s appropriate.
